With the $8.25 million gift from John Prentice, the University of Lethbridge launched the Prentice Institute in 2009.
The Prentice Institute is overseen by the Strategic Governing council, consisting of the Associate Vice-President of Research/Dean of School of Graduate Studies, the Dean of Arts and Science at the University of Lethbridge, and the Director of the Prentice Institute.
Three committees aid the Institute in achieving its mandate: the Steering Committee, the Research Advisory Committee and the Academic Advisory Committee. We currently have a diverse staff of over 30 people.

The Prentice Institute for Global Population and Economy is located on traditional Blackfoot Confederacy territory. We honour the Blackfoot people and their traditional ways of knowing in caring for this land, as well as all Indigenous Peoples who have helped shape and continue to strengthen our community.
