University of Lethbridge political science student Sydney Whiting has been named a 2026 Rhodes Scholar, making her the fourth ULethbridge student in our school history to receive the prestigious honour!
It is a great honour for the Prentice Institute to have been able to provide an research “home” for Sydney since 2023 - in the past few years, she has worked on a SSHRC-funded project examining media framing and populism in Alberta (with two peer-reviewed articles now in print with co-author Sydney Rolfe), completed a City of Lethbridge-based MITACS internship (with Taylor Manns) examining work-integrated learning and post-secondary student retention/employment in the region, and has worked extensively on a regional health promotion and social policy research contract that will wrap up in the new year. She is now in the final weeks of her undergraduate degree, and successfully completed her honours thesis in political science this summer. Sydney will continue her work as a research associate with the Prentice Institute in the new year.
