Indigenous-led Environmental Restoration and Governance in Southern Alberta

Dr. Andrea Cuéllar’s Indigenous Research Engagement Grant supports two activities developed with the Kainai Ecosystem Protection Association (KEPA). The first supports Api’soomaahka (William Singer III)’s visit to the University of Oxford to share Kainai-led climate and restoration work and explore seed-conservation and agroecology initiatives, strengthening collaboration among KEPA, Oxford, and the University of Lethbridge. The second supports talking circles led by Elder Dr. Mike Bruised Head and facilitated by Blair Many Fingers to guide early research planning for KEPA’s proposed Water Treaty—an Indigenous-led framework for protecting and governing waters in Blackfoot Confederacy territory.
