Nick Yarmey has been a Research Associate with the Prentice Institute since January 2021 where he provides GIS mapping, quantitative data analysis, and data visualization. His primary area of research is understanding and responding to the health and community impacts of resource development in Alberta. With other Prentice Institute researchers, he co-authored the Health in the Watershed Atlas “Taking Notice to Take Action: Integrating Environment, Community, and Health” as part of the Environment, Community, Health Observatory (ECHO) Network. He also developed the Alberta EnviroScreen tool, which merges environmental, community, and health data into a spatial assessment framework to quantify the cumulative effects of resource extraction and associated land uses.
Nick completed a Master of Science in Natural Resources and the Environment at the University of Connecticut studying people's attitudes toward black bears and black bear management across a primarily exurban landscape. He has a Bachelor of Science from the University of Alberta Augustana Campus with a major in Environmental Science and a minor in Sociology.
